Be a Volunteer

Become a volunteer and help support grieving children and teens. The Solace Tree’s volunteer training sessions are Wednesday,  Thursday, and Sunday. Please fill out this PDF volunteer application and send it to The Solace Tree, P.O. Box 2944, Reno, NV 89505.

The fee is $50.00, which is a donation going toward background checks, snacks, insurance, training materials, a Solace Tree t-shirt and camp supplies.

Volunteers work directly with grieving children and teens twice a month (five to ten hours) in peer support groups. A 16 hour, four day training (with course fee) is required. Volunteers are required to make a one year commitment to our program.

Volunteering Time to Help Grieving Children and Families

The Solace Tree has met the needs of hundreds of children and family members. There would be no Solace Tree without the commitment of volunteers who have come forward to work with these participants in grief.

The volunteers enable the children and adults to talk about the things they can’t talk about at school or with peers. It is the volunteers in each group that provide safety for the children and families to share their grief.

“The best thing for me was knowing that I wasn’t the only one who had someone die.” -A Solace Tree Participant

The Solace Tree runs its programs on the traditional Washoe County School District schedule. Volunteers do not work on holidays.

The Solace Tree is also looking for advisory members, clerical help, board members, and help with fundraising.

Individuals interested in becoming a volunteer/facilitator for our program may contact us for more information.
